Have
you ever been in situation that you held on to a treasure trunk but found out
that the lock on the treasure trunk was worth more than the trunk itself. Many
a times it is about the shine that blinds us from seeing the full perspective. We
never know what life has to offer us. There is one story that one of my friends
told me.
It
is a story that one of my friends told me. It was about his friend’s cousin
named Rishabh. He was a hard working individual and was working in a good
company. He was smart and talented and had very dynamic personality. He did not
have any ego whatsoever of working in a big company and about his other traits
which included wonderful writing skills, guitar playing skills. He was very
generous and spoke to everyone with same respect.
The
life was going fine for him but until the time his dad got paralysis. He was
the only child of the family and had no option but to quit the job and return.
He could not have taken his dad to the city where he was posted because the
place was very alien to his mother and father both. He took care of his dad for
couple of months and saw his and his parents’ saving disappearing from the bank
accounts. The guy’s economic background wasn’t really good. His parents lived
in a rented house and had no permanent roof above their heads.
The
situation got dire because now there was no one earning bread for the family.
He started pitching his resume but the response was negative. A lot of
companies said they cannot afford his salary while others said they don’t work
on the technology in which he has experience. He settled for the salary less
than half of what he was getting paid. He worked hard but his boss wasn’t
impressed with his work. His salary was slashed and when raised voice against
it the boss’s instant reply was “You can
leave if you don’t want to work at this salary”. The guy was frustrated and
knew he was being exploited. His dad’s health was a little better but would
still become critical couple of times in a month. His family told him to go
back pursue his career but he read the truth in their eyes. They needed him and
he did not wanted to turn his back on him at that this stage of their lives.
They got little financial aid from their relatives but no one could help them beyond
a limit.
One
fine morning he got a call from his girl friend. She said she was getting
married. His world fell apart. She said “I
have waited for you to return and speak to my parents but now I know you cannot
come back and I cannot wait longer, you should take care of your parents,
someone will take care of me.” He
was broke and sat on knees crying on the footpath at night.
He
tried to contact her several times but she did not return her call. His salary
was again slashed but he could not speak a word because the recession has
already hit and most of the companies in which he applied in the past, had
fired good number of individuals.
The
world started appearing meaner and darker to him. His father, although a little
better in health still was on bed. His mother also became weak and would fall
ill often. She would cry for spoiling her kid’s future and blame her on not
able to earn. He would convince her and show her hope. He never shared anything
that he had to go through at his job, nor did he tell her anything about his
girl friend.
Life
was almost stuck at the same place and he has been living the same way from
past 2 years. He spotted an advertisement in the local newspaper for the post
of writer. The pay was a little less than what he was getting paid but he knew
a new slash in salary was round the corner. He gave the interview and was not
selected. Couple of weeks later he got a call from the same company. They asked
him if he was ready to work for them. He said yes quite happily but they told
him that as he is not a professional with experience in writing they would not
be able to offer him the same salary. He did not agree to that and left the
office. While he was coming out of his office one of the employees of his
office (in which he worked) saw him. He told about the incident to the boss.
When he reached the office, the boss called him and insulted him and fired him.
He
was again jobless and again the long search for the job was on. He searched for
the job for few days and saw the advertisement for the position of writer in
the same company where he said no. He mustered courage and reached the office
and the interviewer soon recognized him. He just him one question are you ready
to work and will be our loyal employ and was hired. He learned the various
aspects of writing and got better at it. He picked up what was taught to him
quickly. Within six months he got his first raise. Within a year he got his
second raise and by the end of second year he was earning double of what he was
earning the firm before it.
His
father’s health also improved. He started writing a blog of his own and made
great efforts towards his work in the company. He also worked on his blog and
kept on sharpening his writing skills.
He
left the job and became a free lancer. He left the job on the good terms and
met with his bosses quite frequently. He became guest writer for various blogs
and earned a hefty amount from his own blog. He also opened a small company
called the writer’s paradise. He now has 25 people working in his office. He also
owns a house and car. His father is perfectly fine and happy to see his child’s
effort paying off.
Indeed
the darkest hour of the night is just before the dawn. #TheNight
